In the fall of 2019 a demolition worker heard the smashing of glass inside an 18" thick wall being removed to renovate College Hall, Montclair State University, Montclair, New Jersey. This was when a bottle with a note from 1907 was discovered. Written on 3 July 1907 by bricklayers during the original construction of the school, the beautifully composed note told of several workers who put in their blood, sweat, and tears to create the foundation of what was then the New Jersey State New School of Montclair Heights. While there was no guarantee that the note would ever be found encased in the center of the brick wall it, and the men who created it, has now found a permanent place in the history of the university. The complete story can be found at Montclair State University News Center. I was honored to be a part of the research at my alma mater.
